About

.PNG
- Parallax Network Group is a cross-European network of artists, researchers and teachers which explores the impact of social and global urgencies on the conditions within which art is made and taught. A core group of four art schools connects Poland, England, Scotland and Norway within an evolving network that engages artists and ideas, cultures and possibilities. Originally entitled Parallax, the group was first established by Pawel Mendrek from ASP Katowice and Martin Newth, who at the time worked at Chelsea College of Arts, UAL, in 2015. In the years prior to its relaunch as .PNG in 2024, the network established a dynamic dialogue, exploring the art school’s function and bringing together artists and researchers, providing opportunities to make together, exhibit together and discuss together. .PNG provides a platform that extends to further collaborative partners including other art academies, film schools, museums and arts organisations. The publications, forums, exhibitions and exchanges that are documented on this website form the ongoing discourses, characterised by an attitude of active dialogue through events - making and making things happen.

Covid-19, Brexit and political extremism across Europe challenge how we may work together and build networks. The imperative to collectivise and to collaborate is more urgent now than at any other time. As external factors propose isolation and drive inward-looking agendas the .PNG turns up the volume on working together and learning from each other. Key questions that are raised via the network concern how art schools engage students, engage with their localities, engage with each other and engage those beyond the art academy.
